The Wi-Tronix cloud-based software and connected on-board hardware gives railways radically better ways to gather, access, and act on train information. With over 10 years of experience in emissions monitoring and reporting for Class I railroads, Wi-Tronix is a trusted partner in solving energy accounting needs. Our Automatic Engine Start Stop Systems (AESS) include hardware and software solutions that help to reduce idling locomotive fuel consumption and lower emissions for locomotives, and regulatory compliance is made easy with our “one-click” emissions reporting.
Per the California Air Resources Board, “The In-Use Locomotive Regulation (Regulation) will achieve emission reductions from diesel-powered locomotives and increase the use of zero-emission (ZE) technology. The Regulation will help meet California’s public health, air quality and climate goals by reducing criteria pollutants, toxic air contaminants, and greenhouse gas emissions for locomotives in-use.” The first deadline for the In-Use Locomotive Regulation is set to for January 2025, with additional annual reports on idle, emissions, and locomotive activity also beginning in 2026.
Wi-Tronix is working with many railroads to monitor and report alternative energies including hydrogen, LNG, electric, and bio-fuels

The Wi-Tronix platform seamlessly collects locomotive operational data from the onboard Event Recorder, which interfaces through Wi-Tronix ultrasonic fuel sensors, or, through OEM application. Second-by-second locomotive data and positioning tracks the locomotive location to report which Air District(s) the locomotive is operating in. Daily historical data such as fuel consumption, emissions, and more is summarized by region, locomotive, and fleet, which can all be accessed on the Wi-Tronix portal.
